Recently, I had a blast joining Jenny McCarthy on her radio show. One of the questions she asked – and one I hear a lot – was: “What’s the difference between an Angel and a Spirit Guide?” It’s a popular topic, so I wanted to share some thoughts here for those who are curious.
It all comes down to vibration.
Everything is Energy – And Everything Has a Vibration
Everything in the Universe is made of energy, and energy vibrates at different levels. Just like a singer has a vocal range, humans have a vibrational range, too. The more you practice self-love, gratitude, and joy, the higher your vibration climbs. And when your vibration is high, it’s easier to connect with the spiritual helpers around you: deceased loved ones, spirit guides, ascended masters, angels, and archangels.
The beautiful truth is this: even though we’re born at different vibrational levels, every one of us can reach the highest levels of vibration. How? By choosing love, practicing forgiveness, and staying open to the Divine flow.
Why Raise Your Vibration?
The Law of Attraction says that like energy attracts like energy. Spiritual beings in the higher realms don’t lower their vibration to connect with us – it’s up to us to raise ours.
The more we operate from a place of lightness, joy, and love, the closer we become to those higher vibrational beings. That’s how we bridge the gap between our world and the spiritual realms.
Understanding the Vibrational Scale
Here’s how I’ve come to experience the vibrational ranges of different spiritual beings:
Physical Beings (Us!)
We’re here in the physical, experiencing the dense energy of the human body. We can temporarily raise our vibration through practices like meditation and love – but to permanently move up, we must transition from this life.
Deceased Loved Ones
When loved ones pass, they automatically move up the vibrational scale. Over time – divine time, not earthly time – they can choose to become spirit guides if they wish.
Spirit Guides
Spirit guides once lived in physical form and share a similar journey to those they help. They guide, comfort, and sometimes warn us – offering wisdom rooted in their own life experience. Unlike angels, they’re human souls who continue to support us from the spiritual side.
Ascended Masters
Ascended masters, like Buddha and Jesus, are teachers from all cultures who raised their vibration during their earthly life. They remind us that we’re all worthy of love and guidance.
Angels, Guardian Angels & Archangels
Angels have never incarnated into physical form. They exist only in the spiritual realm, offering protection, comfort, and unconditional love. Each of us has a guardian angel who walks with us from birth to death. Archangels are powerful leaders in this angelic realm – always ready to answer our calls for help.
How Angels Show Up
Over the years, angels have appeared to me in many shapes and forms. Their appearance often mirrors what I’m feeling, seeing, or needing in the moment. I’ve come to understand that there’s no single “correct” way to see an angel. They show up in a way that you can understand and receive – always gentle, always loving.
The Divine: Love in Everything
The Divine is the God of your understanding. For me, God isn’t defined by any one religion or scripture, but rather by the Love that infuses all things.
When I surrendered the need to control anything but myself, I realized that God is in everything: you, me, the ocean, the trees, the laughter of children. The God of my understanding is simply Love – always present, everywhere.
